A Bentonville football player was hospitalized Thursday night after suffering an injury in a game in Rogers, delaying the contest for about 30 minutes.

A teenage player on Bentonville’s ninth-grade football team was hit hard at the goal line during a game at Rogers Heritage High School, eyewitnesses said. The game was delayed for about a half hour while the player laid on the field.

An ambulance from the Rogers Fire Department responded to the scene and transported the boy to the hospital, according to police and eyewitnesses.

The boy was later released from the hospital and did not suffer any serious injuries, said Mary Ley, a spokeswoman for the Bentonville School District.
