A Springdale woman was taken to the hospital after she was hit by a vehicle while crossing the street early Thursday (Sept. 12).

The accident happened just before 9 a.m. at Thompson and Oak, according to a police report.

Rosa Maldonado, 71, was attempting to cross Oak when Misty Ledbetter, 34, the driver of a Ford Expedition, was rear-ended by a van driven by 24-year-old Dominique Crespin. Police say the Expedition was attempting to turn east on Oak from Thompson, when the driver realized Maldonado was crossing the street and stopped.

The impact from the van pushed the Expedition forward, striking Maldonado, police said.

Maldonado sustained serious injuries and was taken to Northwest Medical Center, according to a police report.

Both Ledbetter and Crespin were asked to submit a breath test, as per standard protocol, however, the results of the blood alcohol test were negative.

Crespin was cited for careless driving.
