A Springdale pedestrian hospitalized last week after getting hit by a car died Monday, according to state police.

Rosa Maldano, 71, died Monday morning, four days after being struck by a car on Thompson Street in Springdale, according to Arkansas State Police. She was hospitalized at Northwest Medical Center in Springdale on Thursday after being hit by a vehicle while crossing the street, police said.

Her body temporarily remains at the hospital, according to state police.

Local police identified the woman last week as Rosa Maldonado. A state police crash report identifies her as Rosa Maldano.

The collision happened just before 9 a.m. at Thompson Street and Oak Avenue, according to a police report.

Maldano was attempting to cross Oak when Misty Ledbetter, 34, the driver of a Ford Expedition, was rear-ended by a van driven by 24-year-old Dominique Crespin, police said. The Expedition was attempting to turn east on Oak from Thompson, when the driver realized Maldano was crossing the street and stopped.

The impact from the van pushed the Expedition forward, striking Maldano, police said.

Both Ledbetter and Crespin were asked to submit a breath test, as per standard protocol, however, the results of the blood alcohol test were negative.

Crespin was cited for careless driving.
