Two Hospitalized After Semi Flips On Interstate

Authorities are responding to a traffic accident on Interstate 540 southbound near exit 69 at Johnson.

A three-vehicle crash early Tuesday morning left two people hospitalized and a tractor-trailer overturned in the Interstate-540 median near Johnson.

Medical crews from Springdale responded to the crash site, near the Johnson exit, around 4 a.m. and transported two people to the hospital.

A taxi driver, Tabatha Childs, went to the hospital and was released mid-morning, according to state police.

The semi driver, Donald Muncy, was taken to Washington Regional Medical Center with minor injuries and was also released later in the morning.

"A black four-runner lost control and hit a concrete barrier, right behind him was a semi-truck that didn't witness that and hit the black four-runner and overturned in the southbound lane and behind the semi-truck, a taxi driver also hit the black four-runner," said Cpl. Ted Grigson with the Arkansas State Police.

State Police Cpl. Eric Lee said that the driver of the four-runner, Jarrett Graber, was wiping his eye before he lost control of the vehicle.

The wreck temporarily closed southbound interstate lanes, leaving traffic to be re-routed through Johnson. The semi was pulled off the interstate and lanes were  re-opened a few hours later. It took crews hours to remove the wholesale grocery tractor trailer.

Crews later responded to a separate crash around the same location. At 6:56 a.m., a car traveling northbound near the Exit 69 (Johnson) crash rear-ended a sport utility vehicle, authorities said.  Both cars immediately pulled over to the shoulder. No major injuries were reported out of that collision, but a patient was taken to the hospital.
