A maintenance worker at Fort Smith Public Schools was attacked in a parking lot Wednesday night, according to police.

Randy McAlister told police after he entered the fenced and locked parking lot at the school district’s service center on Jenny Lind Road, he heard a noise and saw a dog running through the lot. When he went to investigate the noise, two men beat him, according to a police report.

He used a flashlight to fight back and managed to run for help from another worker in a nearby building. Police arrived on the scene around 9:30 p.m. but did not find locate the suspects.

McAlister sustained a cut to his abdomen during the attack and was treated and released by EMS workers on the scene.

Police say McAlister was not able to give a good description of the suspects, but thought that one of the men was Hispanic.

McAlister also works as a night watchman for the school district, according to police.
