The southbound right lane between Porter Road and Wedington Drive will be closed at various times starting at 8 p.m. on Monday (Sept. 23) for road construction. All lanes will be open at 6 a.m. the next day.
The closures will last around three days, according to a news release.
The northbound right lane will close starting Tuesday (Sept. 24) night.
Concrete barriers are going to be placed along the highway to protect road workers.
The construction will add lanes in the median on the interstate, expanding it to three lanes on each side. Similar construction was done between Wedington Drive and Martin Luther Kind Boulevard.
“You won’t have a shoulder on the outside in those areas where the barrier wall is in place, so we are lowering the speed limit to 55 miles-per-hour,” Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department Engineer Jeff Stroud, said. “You just need to be aware that the speed limit has been reduced in that work zone and fines are doubled in work zones.”
The construction is expected to last until next fall, according to Stroud.
