Major Matt Snead with the Arkansas Army National Guard said Wednesday morning Ft. Chaffee is not closed, despite the partial government shutdown.

However, more than 130 workers have been furloughed including 75 federal employees and 60 state employees, according to Snead.

He said the federal workers are made up of mostly maintenance employees, while the state workers provide a whole host of services.

The post exchange, which is funded by the state, remains open.

Snead said anyone traveling a long distance to the post in order to get an I.D. card should call the office first to make sure someone is available to make the I.D.
