The Scranton Elementary School in Logan County was briefly placed on lockdown Wednesday morning amid a possible threat of violence.
A woman called the school and said her children’s grandfather made threats to “commit suicide and kill family,” Chief Deputy David Spicer said. The man was also reported to be upset and intoxicated.
The parent had received this information from another person and did not have firsthand knowledge of the comments, Spicer said.
School officials contacted the sheriff’s office around 11 a.m. and deputies began investigating the claim. Deputies were able to make contact with the man accused of making the threats at his home in Johnson County.
Spicer said the man, who did not appear intoxicated, disputed the claim.
The officer who spoke to the man did not feel he was a threat to himself or anyone else, Spicer said.
No arrests have been made. The incident is currently under investigation.
Spicer said the school was put on lockdown as a precaution.
