A police chase on Interstate 540 near Johnson on Thursday night culminated with a crash and damage to three vehicles, but the suspect got away, police say.
Johnson police were in pursuit of a suspect’s vehicle, when it crashed along the interstate. Two other vehicles were also involved before the wreck. No one was hospitalized, police said.
State police responded to the call and assisted Johnson’s units.
The pursuit began when a Johnson officer noticed a vehicle’s tag had expired. He tried to initiate a stop, but the vehicle kept going, according to police.
Responding officers followed the suspect vehicle southbound to the Fayetteville area, but the suspect turned the car around and started traveling northbound on the interstate, police said.
The suspect’s vehicle eventually struck two other cars during the chase, and came to rest after crashing into a concrete barrier for the Don Tyson Interchange construction site in Springdale. The suspect fled the vehicle and ran off through a field before disappearing on the other side, police said.
Johnson police are investigating why the man fled from officers.
