Texas was expected to be blown out for the third straight season against Oklahoma.
But the Longhorns did the unexpected as they dominated the Sooners at the Cotton Bowl.
Texas jumped out to a 20-3 lead and held off the Sooners for a 36-20 win in Dallas.
The Longhorns’ defense held Oklahoma to just 263 yards and forced a pair of interceptions. Texas racked up 444 yards of offense including 254 on the ground.
Chris Whaley returned a Blake Bell interception for 31 yards and a touchdown late in the first quarter and seemed to take all the momentum from that point.
Case McCoy threw for 190 yards and two scores and became the first Texas quarterback to beat the Sooners since his older brother, Colt, did so in 2009. Johnathan Gray and Malcolm Brown both rushed for more than 120 yards for the Longhorns.
Oklahoma looked to be inching back into the game in the second half, trailing 23-13, but Daje Johnson returned a punt 85 yards for a touchdown to put the game out of reach.
