Dynamic Duo Emerges In Springdale Backfield
Springdale Safety Cua Rose is known for his efforts on the defensive side of the ball. Last week Rose showed he can make big plays on offense too and with star running back Deandre Murray back from an ankle injury, the Bulldogs now have a lethal one-two-punch in the backfield.
“Both have great speed,” said Head Coach Shane Patrick. “They both are elusive. Cua tends to work his way through the line where as Deandre tends to explode through the line. They really are two different type of runners, but at the same time they are both breakaway guys.”
Rose showed all of that last week against Siloam Springs. He entered the game with just four carries on the season and came out of it with 206 yards rushing and two touchdowns on fifteen carries.
“I felt like it was my game,” said Rose. “It felt good.”
“It was really exciting to see him step up,” said Murray. “I knew Cua could do that just from the type of player he is and the athletic ability he has.”
“We felt really confident that given the opportunity he would get out there and have a performance like that,” said Patrick. “We knew that was something he was definitely capable of and we were excited he was able to get out there and do it.”
Now even though Murray, the Bulldogs leading rusher, is back from an ankle injury that does not mean Rose’s stint on offense is over.
“They are both capable of being great backs and have shown that they are great backs,” said Patrick. “Putting them on the field at the same time and with them blocking for each other and their abilities there it’s going to create a lot of problems for people and hopefully we can use that to our advantage.”
If you ask the dynamic duo about the threat they pose for defenses, they will tell you to watch out.
“Since Cua and me came we always talked about how crazy it would be for both of us back there just from our athletic abilities and it would give defenses a hard time to stop us,” said Murray.
“They are not going to know who to stop,” said Rose. “All I can say is they better watch out.”
