Dozens of pilots are prepping their hot air balloons for the annual Poteau Balloon Fest. The festival will feature tethered balloons rides and flows, a mud pit race, carriage and carnival rides, arts and crafts booths, games, food, and much more.

According to a news release, each evening the hot balloons will line up for balloon a glow. Hot air balloons will perform burns, flickers, and the wave.

Event-goers will be entertained by a pet costume contest, and Mr. and Mrs. Balloon Fest will be revealed. The 2013 Poteau Balloon Fest will also feature Derek Cook FMX, a freestyle motocross event and a zip line. Also returning is America’s Best Frisbee Dogs, Muts Gone Nuts and the BMX Freestyle Team.

The festival will be held on the Leflore County Fairgrounds in Poteau. Event planners say visitors should bring a blanket or lawn chair to enjoy all the fun.

Any and all balloon flights are most likely to occur between the hours of 7-10 a.m. and 4-7 p.m., but exact times may vary. Pets are always welcome.
