"I mean it was a really tough match, Edward played great," said senior Dylan DeLuca. "It was just about who could be more patient because the rallies were really long, but I'm please with the way it went."
On the girls side, Rogers repeated as overall state champs, edging out the Lady Tigers of Bentonville, led by the Tang sisters. This makes the fourth straight year for Tiffany Tang to earn a state title ring, but both love playing with each other.
"We got down 0-3 but we just stayed steady and came back," said senior Tiffany Tang. "I love playing with my sister, it's been amazing."
"I feel really proud right now, really happy," said sophomore Katherine Tang. "It's really good, it's really fun, we have that chemistry together since we are sisters."
The boys doubles was a slight shake up as the Fayetteville duo out-dueled the Bentonville boys, getting a little revenge from conference in a heated state title game.
"It was tough," said senior Craig Smardo. "We came into it confident but we previously lost twice to them so we were a tad bit nervous but we came out firing."
"The third set I think we knew we were going to win it," said junior Sameer Kamth. "It was a good match overall."
Heritage sophomore sensation Aly Darter won her second consecutive state title in the single division and she completely dominated her match in record time.
"I just had a really good match," said sophomore Aly Darter. "I don't think I've ever played as well as I ever did, all of my shots were working, I stayed calm throughout the entire thing. I was really proud of myself."
One thing all the players had to overcome was the weather.
"It was really windy out here," said DeLuca. "That is a pain in the butt."
"You couldn't see the ball at all," said Smardo. "Then the wind- if you hit a lob it just soars out."
"It was really windy," said Tang. "We had to move our feet even more."
In the 4A, the Farmington girls took home the team runner up title, while the duo of Teah Flynn and Haley Maxwell finished second place in doubles.
