Concrete Truck Overturns, Slows Morning Traffic
Traffic was disrupted for more than four hours Friday morning (Oct. 25) after a concrete truck tipped over on Highway 59 between Van Buren and Barling in Crawford County.
According to Arkansas State Police, the driver of an Arkhola Ready Mix Concrete truck was traveling south on Highway 59 around 6 a.m. when he said he lost control of the truck and the weight of the load caused it to tip over off the west shoulder of the highway.
Emergency crews on the scene said the driver was alert when they arrived. They say he suffered what appeared to be minor injuries and was taken by ambulance to Mercy Hospital in Fort Smith.
Morning commuters were delayed when the southbound lane of Highway 59 was blocked by emergency vehicles working to upright the overturned truck. Crawford County deputies directed traffic traveling both north and south in the northbound lane of the highway.
Bass said more drivers seem to be traveling on Highway 59 to avoid the construction zone on Interstate 540. He said the highway is dark in the evening and early mornings and reminds drivers the speed limit is 55 miles per hour.
Arkansas State Police said no citations were issued as a result of the wreck.
