Barry Gebhart’s Brother Got 40 Years For Child Porn

Two days after deputies nabbed Fayetteville schools athletic director Barry Gebhart in an underage sex sting, 5NEWS learned through public records searches that his brother served prison time for child sex crimes.

Greg Gebhart was sentenced in 2009 to 40 years in prison after pleading guilty to four counts of viewing and possessing images depicting child sex. Twenty years of that sentence was suspended, and one count of computer child pornography was dropped from the case, according to court records.

Property records show the West Fork house Greg Gebhart lives in is owned by a woman identified in a warranty deed as the mother to Barry and Greg Gebhart. That woman’s 2008 obituary from a local newspaper identifies a Barry and Greg Gebhart as brothers, as does a 1997 warranty  deed on her home.

Barry Gebhart was arrested Tuesday night in a underage sex sting set up in Rogers by the Benton County Sheriff’s Office. He resigned from the school district Friday.

Greg Gebhart was released from prison on parole in December 2012, after serving three years of a 20-year sentence, according to the Arkansas Department of Correction.

Greg Gebhart appears on West Fork police’s sex offender registry.

A Washington County sex offender registration form states Greg Gebhart was in “possession of numerous images and videos of child porn,” noting specifically the presence of a 10 year old and 9 year old in the material.

The sentencing order shows Greg Gebhart’s viewing of the child pornography happened in the spring of 2008. He was arrested in July, pleaded not guilty the next month, then reached a deal with prosecutors the next year before the case went to trial, according to court records.

Barry Gebhart won a state championship as head coach of the Fayetteville High School boys’ basketball team in 2009 with an undefeated record.

A search of Barry Gebhart shows virtually no Washington County court documents, aside from a divorce case. He was the victim in a domestic disturbance case involving his wife in March 2008, according to a Fayetteville police report.

The report states Barry Gebhart’s wife kicked him in the groin and broke a chair over his arm after he would not let her see what he was doing on the computer. She allegedly told responding officers she believed her husband was looking at internet pornography. Barry Gebhart protested the arrest, and his wife’s case was never prosecuted as a felony, according to court records.
