Two people are in police custody after an early morning chase ended in a crash.

David Walker and Desary Brunton were booked into the Sebastian County Detention Center Monday morning (Nov. 4). The duo is facing charges of criminal trespassing, fleeing police, and possession of marijuana, according to police.

Barling police tried to pull over a Kia Forte which was driving without headlights around 3:30 a.m. when they said the driver, Walker, took off. The chase took officers through side streets of Barling before heading into Fort Smith.

The car crashed through a chain link and barbed wire fence at the corner of S. 92nd and Zero Streets in Fort Smith disabling the vehicle. Officers said high speeds were not a factor in the chase.

Police said Walker ran off on foot after the crash. Fort Smith police found him around 9 a.m. under a residential porch on the 9000 block of Canopy Drive. Walker was shirtless, wearing just blue jeans and tennis shoes, according to police, and he surrendered without incident.

Brunton was arrested at the crash site at Zero St. and 92nd St. in Fort Smith. Police say they believe Brunton was high on marijuana at the time of her arrest.

Investigators searched the abandoned car and found “a small amount of marijuana,” according to Sergeant Michael Irby with the Barling Police Department.

The Barling Police Department, Fort Smith Police Department, Sebastian County Sheriff’s Office, Greenwood Police K-9 Unit and Fort Chaffee Public Safety assisted in the search for Walker.

Authorities say Walker and Brunton are from California, but have been staying in the area.
