When week five of the high school football season began, Sallisaw was sitting at 2-2 and coming off a big loss to rival Poteau.
But since that point the Black Diamonds have been on a roll.
Sallisaw has won five straight including Friday’s 41-13 win at Muldrow that gave the Diamonds a road win and McDonald’s team of the week honors.
Cale Wilson ran for more than 200 yards for the fourth different time this season and also added 13 tackles on the defensive side of the ball.
“Our line blocked real well,” Wilson said. “Everybody played solid the second half. We just put it together and came out with that win.”
“We expected this kind of effort and performance out of him this year,” Sallisaw coach Craig Benson said. “He’s got one speed and that’s wide open.”
Sallisaw’s streak will be put to the test Friday when they face Fort Gibson. A win would not only push the Diamonds’ streak to six but also give them a share of the 4A-4 district title.
“They key is team work,” Sallisaw senior Jadon Davenport said. “Team work and team unity, playing together. Going out there and doing what we are capable of doing.”
