A historic season for the Razorback soccer team continues. Arkansas will be playing in the NCAA Tournament for the first time in school history.
"When they said we made history I was like that has to be us that has to be us," said Forward Yvonne DesJarlais. "Everyone went crazy when they said our name. It was amazing."
"Everyone in the room jumped up screamed and hugged each other," said Midfielder Jessie Givens. "It was a bunch of excitement all at one time."
The NCAA berth adds to a record-setting year for the Hogs. They earned their first SEC Tournament victory since 1996, while also winning a program best thirteen games this season.
"We knew what we wanted to do, how we wanted to grind and exceed expectations and all of that," said Givens. "We just followed through with that."
"Everyone buys into building a legacy," said DesJarlais. "We have to do it one step at a time. Working hard and working for each other."
"We are committing to work every day, outworking the opponents and outwork everyone we play," said Head Coach Colby Hale. "So far the results have taken care of themselves."
Arkansas takes on Oklahoma State in the first round, a team the Razorbacks know they can not take lightly. The Cowgirls are 9-6-6 on the season and are fresh off a run to the Big 12 Championship game, where they lost to West Virginia.
"They are athletic," said Hale. "They have some pretty special attacking players. They are a very good team and I think they are peaking right now. At the same time we have played against some of the best teams in the country."
"We know they are a good team, but we come out here and work as hard as we can every day and improve every day so whatever they bring to us we will be ready for it," said Givens.
Kick-off between Arkansas and Oklahoma State is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Friday at the Cowgirl Soccer Complex.
