The lights are up at Creekmore Park in Fort Smith, but the switch has not yet been flipped on. The Fort Smith Parks and Recreation team announces the festivities for the holiday season, Holiday Express kickoff,  will be on Monday, December 2, 2013 from 5:15 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Events for the evening include Mayor Sandy Sanders throwing the light switch, fireworks, free hot cocoa and popcorn, and an appearance by Santa. The Steam Engine train will also be running that night only for all those who would like to take a ride around the park while looking at the lights, all other nights the diesel train will run.  “The Polar Express” will be showing while you wait on the train during the kick off event. Parents are encouraged to bring a camera to grab a picture of Santa and the kids.

The Holiday Express train rides are 25 cents per person.

Monday and Tuesday, December 23rd & 24th
Thursday through Saturday, December 26th—28th

The Fort Smith Parks and Recreation department says during the regular schedule there will be a host for each night. The host is a local non-profit agency.
