Yale Shooting Hoax

New Haven police say they believe that the report of a shooter on his way to Yale University’s campus Monday morning was a “hoax,” reports CBS affiliate WFSB.

Around 9:30 a.m., police say they received an anonymous call from someone claiming his roommate was headed to Yale with a long gun. The university went into lockdown mode, telling students and faculty to stay inside as police searched the area.

Police are trying to track down the man who called police from a payphone. The Federal Bureau of Investigation is listening to the phone call and using voice recognition equipment to try to determine who the caller is.

New Haven Police Chief Dean Esserman said that once the man is located, he will be arrested.
