Portions of Greenwood were dark after the winter weather moved into Arkansas last week, leaving many residents without heat in below-freezing temperatures.
Arkansas Valley Electric spent most of Sunday (Dec. 8) restoring and rebuilding main lines in the River Valley.
A plow truck hit a main line near Arkansas 71 on Friday (Dec. 6) causing a lot of the outages, according to Will Dawson, the Greenwood police chief. But, many residents first lost power on Thursday (Dec. 5) because of ice.
"We`ve been out of power since Thursday morning and we stayed home as long as we could," Wanda Mooney said. "My parents have a wood-heating stove, so we went to their house and they were out of electricity Thursday night."
Dawson said that officers responded to hundred of welfare check calls and they were keeping a close eye on the elderly.
Greenwood residents came together to get through the storm.
"I've been pulling the law out of the ditches, I've been pulling people out and just helping," Brad Ray said. "You just run into people everywhere that needs help. Most people ain't prepared for none of this stuff."
The Greenwood High School Storm Shelter was opened Sunday night for people to have a warm place to sleep.
