Warming Centers Stay Busy During Winter Blast

With temperatures dropping below freezing outside, warming centers have opened their doors in both Northwest Arkansas and the River Valley.

With temperatures dropping below freezing outside, warming centers have opened their doors in both Northwest Arkansas and the River Valley.

The Salvation Army in Fayetteville, Bentonville and Fort Smith are all working to keep people warm and out of the harsh cold temperatures.

In addition to providing shelter, organizers are also making sure those in need have food, water and warm clothes, according to Major Pope with the Salvation Army in Fayetteville.

When the temperatures fall below 39 degrees, people can head to the Fayetteville and Bentonville Salvation Armies for a warm place to stay. If the temperatures stay below 23 degrees during the day, both facilities stay open around the clock.

In the River Valley, Grand Avenue Baptist Church also served as a warming center Saturday night (Dec. 8) and Sunday morning (Dec. 9).
