An 18-month-old Clarksville girl was killed in an apartment fire Wednesday afternoon. Now her parents are left reliving that day and reflecting on the loss of their daughter, Chezleigh Alana Reign Wood.

The fire started about 12:15 p.m. at an eight unit complex on Cemetery Street, said Clarksville Police Chief Greg Donaldson.

"The only thing else I could have done, was get her out of that room. And I didn't do it," said Chris Wood, the toddler's father.

Donaldson said he believes the fire started inside the unit where the child was killed. He said three units were destroyed. The remaining units sustained smoke damage.

"She was just the best little girl I could ever ask for," said the toddler's mother, Destiny Wood. "I just wish I had more time with her."

The toddler’s father and two other children were able to make it out of the apartment safely, according to Donaldson.

"I should have been able to get to her," said Chris Wood.  "A father should have been able to get to his daughter."

No other injuries were reported.

The girl’s body was sent to the Arkansas State Crime lab.

Donaldson said foul play is not suspected. Investigators with Arkansas State Police are assisting Clarksville police with the investigation.

A visitation has been scheduled for Monday (Dec. 16), from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Clarksville Funeral Home. The funeral is set to be held Tuesday (Dec. 17) at noon.
