A school bus on its way to Har-Ber High School slid off into a ditch on Wagon Wheel Road in Springdale on Thursday (Dec. 12), officials said.

No one was injured in the incident, and students were picked up by another bus, said Rick Schaeffer, Springdale School District spokesman.

Schaeffer said it was the only incident with icy roads Thursday morning. He said the school district runs more than 100 buses, and about 80 percent of the routes were covered on this first day back to school since the snow storm rolled in on Dec. 5.

The bus didn’t sustain any damage.

  • Mr Tom says:

It wasn’t on Wagon Wheel. Also the bus remained at a high throtle with all heaters operating. We were there no longer than 18 minutes. It was located 100 feet west of 8585 E. Brown.. It was the result of a turn around event..

  • John says:

We are just lucky that no child was killed.

I remember a crash in Oklahoma just like this to were a bus slid into a ditch just like this, at only a few mph and a limb pressed through the window and crushed a 14 year old girl into her seat back. She died and the bus was just barley moving. Speed is not always a factor in a fatal accident.

This bus should of had snow chains on it. This is pure negligence.

The children’s lives are the number on priority and snow chains, could be had, for each bus for under $50 each.

This is so sad and not an area to cut expenses.
