Clint Conque became the all-time leader in career wins as the coach at Central Arkansas in 2013 but the tenured coach resigned on Saturday.
Conque steps down after 14 seasons with the Bears and will accept the head coaching job at Stephen F. Austin. The Lumberjacks are in the Southland Conference, the same as UCA.
Conque led UCA to a pair of FCS playoff berths, with the Bears reaching the second round each trip.
“We appreciate the 14 years Coach Conque dedicated to UCA and Conway,” UCA Director of Athletics Brad Teague said. “UCA has a longstanding championship tradition, and Clint Conque continued this tradition and led us into our Division I era with great success, and for that we are thankful.”
Conque was 105-59 during his run with the Bears and won three conference titles. Conque helped UCA transition from division II to the FCS level and had the Bears ranked as high as No. 6 to start the 2013 season.
“We will immediately begin focusing on the search for our next head coach,” Teague said. “Head coaching and/or Division I experience is very important, as is a passion for helping our student-athletes succeed as football players and men and upholding the standards of this university. Quality people work at UCA, and that will continue with this and all hires.”
