Broken by an unseen perpetrator, a monument honoring fallen Fayetteville officers may soon rise again.
The Fayetteville City Council on Tuesday night unanimously approved a motion allowing the police department to spend $3,050 in donations. At least a portion of that money is slated to go toward repairing a memorial broken two months ago by a vandal, according to the Fayetteville Police Department.
The police department placed the memorial in front of the police station on Rock Street in Fayetteville earlier this year. In early October, it laid cracked and broken on the sidewalk. Police investigated the incident, but have so far been unable to find a suspect in the case, said Sgt. Craig Stout.
The department received surveillance cameras for the area the day before the vandalism, but they had not yet been installed, police said.
Police are looking at quotes from different companies to fix the broken monument. An early estimate places the cost at about $3,700.
The $3,050 approved for use by the City Council includes money that has been donated to the police department in the last few months.
