Monday (Dec. 23) the city of Greenwood will start cleaning up damage from this month’s ice storm, according to Mayor Del Gabbard.

Gabbard says it could take more than a month to complete.

He estimates it will cost at least $50,000 to gather and burn debris left by the winter storm. The City Council also approved the hiring of six temporary workers and a six-month lease on land for a burn site.

Gabbard says residents should place debris parallel to the street with tree limbs no longer than 12 feet and no more than 10 feet from the road. The city will not accept manufactured lumber. When stacking your limbs be mindful not to put over a manhole, gas, or water meter.

Gabbard says he has started the process of trying to get FEMA to pay a portion of the cleanup costs.
