The Army Corps of Engineers issued a small craft advisory on Sunday (Dec. 22) for the Arkansas River from Russellville, Ark. downstream.

Recent heavy rains caused flows to rise.

During high flows, strong currents and large debris can threaten the safety of pleasure craft.

Small craft advisories are issued when flows exceed 70,000 c.f.s. Flows at Dardanelle Lock and Dam at Russellville are about 100,000 c.f.s.  Flows at Murray Lock and Dam at Little Rock are about 95,000 c.f.s.  Flows at Emmett Sanders Lock and Dam at Pine Bluff are about 100,000 c.f.s.

More rain could push flows higher or cause the advisory to remain in effect longer.
