One Arkansan is dead after two apparent tornadoes touched down in Eastern Arkansas over the weekend, officials told our sister station WREG.

At least five others were injured, and dozens of homes were destroyed Saturday when the severe weather struck.

The St. Francis County Sheriff’s Office told WREG that one of the possible tornadoes touched down three miles west of Hughes. According to the Sheriff, a 3-year-old was taken to the hospital with injuries after the storm ripped a roof off a home on Highway 38.

David Cox, a National Weather Service meteorologist based in Jackson, Miss., said another apparent tornado swept through the town of Dermott near the southeastern corner of the state. Two people were injured in that strike and about 20 homes were damaged, Cox said.

Crews are now working in both of the areas hit to remove power lines and clean up debris left behind from the storm.
