Terence Pierce and Brandon Trotner were too much for West Fork to handle in the opening round of the Airedale Classic in Alma.

The Gravette duo combined for 43 points as the Lions posted a 60-40 win to advance to Saturday's game against the winner of Alma and Sacred Heart.

West Fork tried to stay close but Pierce hit a runner in the lane despite being intentionally fouled. Pierce knocked down both free throws to put the game out of reach.

The Greenland girls also picked up an opening round win in Alma as they knocked off 4A Pottsville 57-43.

The Lady Pirates are the two time defending 3A state champion.
