(CNNMoney) - This year, Americans can't file their taxes until January 31st. If you're starting to get the proper paperwork in order, there are eight tax breaks that taxpayers miss out on the most.

Number 1: Tuition and fees. A deduction of up to $4,000 is currently available to parents and students paying for college.

Number 2: Teacher expenses. The Educator Expense Deduction aims to help teachers cover the cost of classroom supplies that their school doesn't reimburse them for.

Number 3: Mortgage insurance premiums. Currently, homeowners are able to deduct their mortgage insurance premiums as residence interest.

Also, you can get money by being energy-efficiency. If you've improved your windows or doors lately, you can get up to 500 credit.
