One local teacher could be performing at this year's Grammy Awards show, but he needs the internet's help to win a contest to send him there.

Barrett Baber, 33, was entered to win an all-expenses paid  trip to Los Angeles to perform in front of millions of viewers at the "Grammy Gig of a Lifetime" concert. The winner of an internet music popularity contest will get the gig and win the trip to L.A.

Baber is currently in second place in fan voting.

"A fan submitted a video for the song 'Drop-Dead Red Head' to this contest. She sent me a message on Facebook and asked me if I would mind, so that`s how it got started and here we are."

The winner of the contest will be announced Jan. 9.

If he wins, the Marion native and Fayetteville High School teacher would open for the popular music group, "The Neighbourhood!" during the start of the Grammy's.

"Im not sure how many of the kids know yet because we haven`t been in school, but we start back Monday," Baber said. "So I'm hoping the kids at the high school will get behind me too."

Baber thinks he would be a perfect fit, as his music spans multiple genres: country, blues and rock.

"I play songs that you don`t expect in a way that you may not expect. It's easy for someone to play 'Sweet Home Alabama' the exact same way, but if you can do it in a new way that gets peoples attention, and that`s what I feel I do, and how I get best response."
