In frigid temperatures, firefighters early Monday (Jan. 6) battled a house fire at 2206 Monticello Place in Springdale.
Three occupants had been in the house, but all three went to a neighbor's home and escaped injury, officials said. There were not thought to be any pets in the house.
The people who lived in the house had lived there for years, one daughter said she grew up in the house.
Fire crews at the scene said the blaze spread into the attic and at first, responded with an aggressive interior attack, but soon had to fight the flames defensively from the exterior.
The fire was creating a smoke plume visible in the area at about 9:30 a.m. Ambulances were dispatched to the scene in case of possible injuries, fire officials said.
Temperatures in the area hovered around zero at the time of the fire, with the wind chill making it seem much colder even than that.
The cause of the fire was still under investigation early Monday, officials said.
