The Centers for Disease Control reports ten deaths from the flu virus in Arkansas.

The virus can be contagious two days before symptoms and up to seven days after, which can be even longer for children.

Dr. Robert Karas, owner of Karas Urgent Care, said about 75 percent of his patients this week have come in because of flu-like symptoms.

"What I usually ask people when they come in the clinic for the flu is if they have high fevers, 102 or higher," Karas said. "For adults, I usually ask if they feel like they've been hit by a truck because that`s a pretty good sign you probably have the flu."

The flu shot is the most effective way to prevent the flu, which can cost between 20 and 30 dollars, according to doctors. This year's vaccine includes defense toward the H1N1 virus.
