5NEWS and the Northwest Arkansas Touchdown Club are launching a brand new high school football awards banquet called “Friday Night All-Stars.” The event will be held on Jan. 18 with Arkansas head coach Bret Bielema as the guest speaker. A special television broadcast of the event can be seen on Ch. 5 Saturday, Jan. 25 at 11:30 a.m.
Here are the nominees for best defensive lineman:
1. Josh Frazier- Har-Ber
2. Jake Hall- Har-Ber
3. Matt Hansen- Shiloh Christian
Josh Frazier is 6-3 330 pounds. Naturally, opponents double teamed him all year. He still managed 49 tackles and 5 sacks. His hard work earned him an invite to the US Army All-American Game in San Antonio.
“I’d say if any people wants to come play football in Arkansas Har-Ber is the best place to go,” said Frazier. “They develop you into a man.”
Frazier also created turnovers, with one forced fumble, two fumble recoveries and an interception. Frazier is committed to the University of Alabama.
Next to him on that Wildcat defensive line was senior Jake Hall. He amassed 67 tackles, 3.5 sacks, causing havoc at the defensive end spot. Hall recovered two fumbles and caused another.
“We had really good chemistry helping each other out,” said Hall. “Everybody was able to get penetration and it caused a lot of trouble for the quarterback.”
Hall will enroll at the University of Arkansas next season and play for coach Bielema.
Senior Matt Hansen anchored the Shiloh Christian defense in 2013. The Saints have always been known as an offensive team, but it was Hansen who turned the most heads. Coaches in the 5A West called him the best defensive lineman they played all year.
“We really prided ourselves on being a strong team defensively and not just offensively,” said Hansen. We made it a big deal to make big plays on defense and make big stops to be a game changer.”
Hansen racked up 80 tackles, 21 tackles for loss, to go with 10.5 sacks.
