Dozens off accidents were reported on slick roads in the River Valley as freezing rain coated the roadways with a glassy glaze early Wednesday (Jan. 8).

Traffic was backed up in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 40 at the Franklin and Johnson county line after a tractor-trailer jackknifed Wednesday morning, said Randy Ort, Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department spokesman. (A photo of that incident is included with this story.)

Arkansas State Police officials said they had responded to dozens of accidents across the area before noon on Wednesday.
