Thursday evening around 6pm, several viewers sent pictures of what appeared to be the Northern Lights from Fayetteville, Arkansas.
A Geomagnetic storm is actually occuring this week and while Northern Lights are uncommon in Arkansas they can be seen; usually as a red hue. I incorrectly assumed the viewer images were related to the ongoing solar storm which you can find a link to here: Current Geomagnetic Storm
Within minutes on social media, several pictures began to appear of a green sky over Northwest Arkansas. @FayFlyer on Twitter posted this picture from the University of Arkansas Stadium which appears to be the university testing some of their lightning.
So there you have it. No Northern Lights, no Ghostbusters, no toxic spill: just a lot of green LED’s. The lights are reflecting off the low clouds and fog tonight and can be seen for miles.
This is another image of Razorback Stadium shot by Brandon Hartung.
