Fayetteville High School students slept in cardboard boxes to raise money for homeless families in the school district Tuesday (Jan. 14). Last year, more than 270 families benefited, according to the district's website. The goal was to raise $20,000.
The proceeds from the vigil go towards the school district's "Families In Transition" program. It helps students and their families who are homeless with school meals, transportation, enrollment, clothes and school supplies.
Anders Bandy, student council president, has been participating in the annual Homeless Vigil for three years.
"The first year I realized how great of a difference it's making and this little thing of me staying one night in the cold can really help families," Bandy said. "It just puts everything into perspective and so I love it."
