Police blocked off an area near a Rogers Walmart on Thursday afternoon, as the bomb squad examined a discarded briefcase. The bomb squad opened the briefcase and found nothing, according to a bomb technician at the scene.

The Rogers Police Department received a call around 4:45 p.m. that someone had left a suspicious black bag or case by one of the gas pumps at Murphy USA at the Walmart store on Walnut Street, Officer Keith Foster said.

Police taped off the area while waiting for the Bentonville Bomb Squad to come and examine the bag. The bomb squad arrived at the scene around 5:15 p.m.

A member of the bomb squad retrieved the briefcase around 5:45 p.m. and discovered nothing inside.

The situation left the gas station, a portion of the block and part of the Walmart blocked off for about an hour.
