Barrett Baber, a teacher at Fayetteville High School, has won the CBS "Grammy Gig of a Lifetime" contest.

Baber's music company, Graydog Music, made the announcement in a news release on Friday (Jan. 17). CBS also announced on its website that Baber won the music popularity contest determined by fans in online voting.

As the winner, the 33-year-old debate and forensics teacher is scheduled to open on Jan. 26 for the California-based band The Neighbourhood at the "Grammy Gig of a Lifetime" concert at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles.

“I really can’t say enough to thank the people of Arkansas, my friends and fans, students and colleagues," he said in the news release. "It’s been a whirlwind few weeks, and I’ve been overwhelmed by the support of all these people.”

Baber has said his music spans multiple genres: country, blues and rock.

“I play songs that you don`t expect in a way that you may not expect," Baber, a survivor of the American Airlines flight 1420 crash in 1999, told 5NEWS in a recent interview.

The show is scheduled to air Jan. 26 at 7 p.m. on Channel 5.
