Colin Kaepernick had a chance to send the San Francisco 49ers back to the Super Bowl but Richard Sherman swatted that opportunity away.

With less than 30 seconds left in the NFC championship game, Kaepernick’s pass into the end zone was intended for Michael Crabtree but Sherman batted the pass away.

Malcolm Smith happened to be in the right place at the right time as he picked off the pass in the end zone to essentially end the game and send the Seahawks to Super Bowl XLVIII with a 23-17 win.

The two teams each had exactly 308 total yards on offense and traded the lead a handful of times. Seattle scored the game’s final 13 points to beat the 49ers for the second time this season, both of which came at home.

Russell Wilson finished with 215 yards passing and a touchdown. Kaepernick had 153 yards through the air but added a game high 130 yards rushing.
