Rickey Smith and Clay Reeves have seen their fair share of big games.
Smith, the Northside coach, has won six state title at Northside. Reeves, the Greenwood Lady Bulldogs coach, has won five state titles in his career.
But the top ranked Lady Bears were too much in the end of this big game as Northside posted a 64-59 win at the Kaundart-Grizzly Fieldhouse.
The two teams traded big runs in the first half when Greenwood found themselves out in front 22-14. That’s when the perimeter game starting working for Northside.
The Lady Bears ended the first half on a 15-3 run then started the second half with another spurt as Greenwood fell behind double digits.
Greenwood attempted a rally, then pulled within 50-46 but a pair of free throws and back-to-back technical fouls on Reeves put the game out of reach for the Lady Bulldogs. Reeves was ejected.
Brianna Jackson scored a game high 23 points while Olivia Hanson added 18 for Northside. Greenwood was paced by Lundon Williams with 16 points while Megan Hartness finished with 13.
The Northside boys wasted little time completing the sweep as they jumped out to an early lead and then quickly pushed that to 24-8 in the opening minutes of the second quarter.
Northside pulled out the 69-48 win and sets up a showdown at Little Rock Parkview on Friday.
