Crews in Springdale responded Wednesday night to a structure fire that was showing flames and smoke, according to the fire department. Firefighters later said the building was destroyed.

Springdale firefighters responded to the location at 3802 Kelly Ave. around 8:30 p.m. and shortly afterward reported seeing smoke and flames from a structure behind the Jet Custom Printing building. The fire was declared under control around 9:30 p.m., but the building was totaled, said Fire Chief Mike Irwin.

Irwin said the building belongs to Ozark Import Specialists, Inc. There were cars and a recreational vehicle inside the structure at the time of the fire. The fire also damaged the metal rafters, making the building a total loss, he said.

The call came in as a structure fire showing flames. A caller told authorities he heard an explosion, then saw flames and smoke at the building, according to emergency crews.

At least four fire trucks responded to the scene. Shortly after 9 p.m., they started trying to pull some siding off of the building to allow some of the heat to escape.

SourceGas and Ozarks Electric were also called to the site following the fire call, according to dispatchers.

Crews are not sure what caused the fire. The incident remains under investigation.
