Fayetteville Public Schools students will have to be in class Saturday (Jan. 25).
Students made up their first day missed on Monday (Jan. 20) for Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Saturday will be the second snow make up day.
Alan Wilbourn with the Fayetteville School District said if a student already had a trip planned or can't get off of work, the absence will be excused. However, parents must call the school to get the absence excused.
"It will be a normal day of school," Wilbourn said.
However he said the only difference is that school will be dismissed an hour earlier than their dismissal time.
Washington Elementary School Principal Ashley Garcia said she hopes to have good attendance.
"Its hard to say if we will have a full house or not," Garcia said. "I know from what students have told me that they are coming."
She said they're having a pajama day as an incentive.
"I think the pajama day is going to help with that," Garcia said. "But also we do not have to have a certain percentage of attendance for the day to count. It's the number of hours of instruction that will make it count."
"We're hoping that everybody comes and let's make it count," Garcia said.
This is the first time in three years that students at Fayetteville Public Schools have had classes six days in a row.
In addition to the two days the district is making up this week, students will make up one snow day in both March and April. The remaining four snow days will have to be made up at the end of school year in June. They're scheduled to be in class through June 5th.
Under Arkansas state law, schools must have 178 days of class.
