Firefighters early Thursday (Jan. 30) battled a grass fire that destroyed some unoccupied structures and posed a threat to at least one business near the Madison County town of Hindsville, officials said.

The fire was confined to a football-field-sized area and was mostly under control by noon, said an eyewitness at the scene.

The fire posed a threat to Blooms-N-More, a gardening shop and nursery at 4739 Highway 412, according to the Madison County Sheriff’s Office.

There were no reports of injuries as firefighters attempted to douse the blaze Thursday morning. High winds and low humidity were considered factors in fanning the fast-moving fire, authorities said.

At the same time, firefighters also were battling a blaze near Kingston, the sheriff’s office said.
