An infant drowned in a pond near Gans on Saturday (Jan. 25), according to a report from the Sequoyah County Sheriff’s Office.

The infant was identified in the police report as “C.B.”

The report, given by Deputy Johnson of the Sequoyah County Sheriff’s Office, stated C.B.’s mother, Serina Brock, was making dinner while his uncle, Douglas Shaddon, was outside shooting a B.B. Gun and watching the children.

When Shaddon came indoors, Brock asked where C.B. was. Shaddon then went back outside and was unable to find the infant. Eventually, Brock went to check a nearby pond.

When the mother got to the pond, she saw C.B. lying face down on top of the water. After that, Brock jumped into the pond and pulled C.B. out of the water. The family then called 911 and took C.B. to meet local firemen at the Gans High School.

Dispatch advised Deputy Johnson that the infant wasn’t breathing at the school before he arrived.

C.B. was then taken to Sparks Hospital in Fort Smith and eventually pronounced dead.

According to the report, after the infant was taken to the hospital, Deputy Johnson went back to the residence of C.B. on E. 1116 Rd. to investigate the situation with Trooper Danny Upton. They measured the distance from the front door to the pond and found the length was 234 feet and 10 inches. Deputy Johnson’s report stated that he looked for anything suspicious but did not find anything.
