Springdale recently received great news after being named the 31st most affordable metro area in the U.S.

The good news was delivered by The Council for Community and Economic Research.

According to the release from the Springdale Chamber of Commerce, “The Council annually releases its Cost of Living index ranking the most affordable metropolitan areas in the United States.”

The report stated that of the 308 metros surveyed in 2013, Springdale’s region ranked 31st – 11.3 percent below the average cost of living.

The composite index is based on six components – housing, utilities, grocery items, transportation, health care and miscellaneous goods and services.

“Springdale’s region rated below the national average in groceries (92.0), housing (76.0), transportation (86.3), healthcare (87.7), and miscellaneous goods and services (94.1),” the release said.

Springdale’s metro area ranked above the national average in the utilities category. It was 3.3 percent above the national average for 2013.
