A fire destroyed a Fayetteville home Friday afternoon, hospitalizing the owner and displacing the family.

Firefighters responded to the call shortly after 2 p.m. at 4056 N. Salem Road. They arrived to find a fully-engulfed house fire. Crews battled the fire while an ambulance transported a man to a local hospital with burn injuries.

There were two people at home at the time of the fire, a man and a woman.

The home sustained significant damage, displacing the family. Crews at the scene said the local chapter of the American Red Cross is helping the family.

The Wheeler Fire Department initially responded to the call, then called Fayetteville firefighters for assistance.

The icy road conditions delayed firefighters in getting to the location, said Chief Jeremy Oxford with the Wheeler Fire Department.

"We had water problems. The road is solid ice," he said. "It took us a while to get to it, to get the water to the trucks to fight the fire."

Nobody else was injured in the fire.
