A Washington County man was killed earlier this week after crashing his pickup truck on a highway near Springdale after possibly sliding on ice, according to state police crash records.

James R. Oxford, 62, was traveling Tuesday on Arkansas Highway 303, when his truck crossed the center line at a curve and went off of the roadway, according to a fatal accident report from the Arkansas State Police.

Oxford’s 2004 Dodge Ram truck traveled up an embankment before going airborne and crossing over Washington County Road 97. The truck traveled another 50 feet before striking a grove of small trees and stopping, according to the police report.

The report lists the weather as “clear” but says the road had “patchy ice”.

Oxford, of Elkins, was transported to Washington Regional Medical Center, where he later died. His next-of-kin was notified the next day, according to state police.
