A Fort Smith woman died early Monday (Feb. 10) after being hospitalized with flu-like conditions while pregnant, according to her husband, Chris Creekmore.

He said his wife Leslie died about 4:30 a.m. while battling the virus.

In January, the woman lost her unborn daughter, Jera, after coming down with the H1N1 virus and being hospitalized in Fort Smith. Leslie was then taken by medical helicopter to a St. Louis hospital.

At one point, she was unconscious and on a ventilator while battling the virus, according to her family. She began feeling sick on Jan. 6, her family said.

Leslie lost her baby when she was 20 weeks pregnant, her family said. Doctors said her body spontaneously delivered the baby while she was unconscious.

Her husband said it was a “pretty clear case of just her body realizing that it couldn’t support both of them, and so having to focus on just one and abandon the other.”
